Student Support

The Murri School Way represents a holistic and culturally responsive approach to education that honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and values while promoting the well-being and success of all school community members. It is a guiding philosophy that enriches teaching and learning, fosters positive relationships, and strengthens cultural identity and pride.

Our Learning Support program is designed to support classroom differentiation and adjustment by providing resources and assistance for students with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, physical difficulties, disengaged student and those who are gifted.

Before commencing any learning program, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Personal Learning Plan (PLP) will occur in consultation with the parents/carers, classroom teacher and the Student Support Team. The student’s strengths and learning needs are discussed at this time including any reports supplied by specialists and a program put in place to support the student.

We access student funding for this. Whilst this is not a substantial amount, decisions are made as to staff allocation and which students receive funding based on diagnosis and needs.

Depending on the nature of the assistance required, students can be:

    • be withdrawn from classes on an individual basis
    • be withdrawn from class on a small group basis
    • join alternative learning classes (Multi class or other)
    • be assisted while part of a larger class group in the classroom.

During learning support sessions, students may:

    • access reading intervention eg MultiLit programs(Initial Lit, Mini Lit, Macq Lit)
    • access 1:1 tutoring with MultiLit
    • focus on targeted differentiated curriculum outcomes
    • work with paper-based and online interactive material
    • participate in a specialised life skills program
    • discuss issues surrounding their learning problem
