Our School sits on Yuggera & Turrabul country in the city of Brisbane called Mianjin/Meanjin by its traditional custodians.
We embrace Indigenous knowledge systems, values, perspectives and understandings as the foundation for all we do. The Language Revival Program created at our school allows us to encourage and support our children's sense of identity & belonging. The main focus of this unit is that students understand the relationship between Language, Country and Community. The planning is aligned with the content descriptions from the Australian Curriculum Framework for Aboriginal Languages and Torres Strait Islander Languages Revival Pathway. The Leadership team have discussed the implementation and content of this program with Yuggera elders. It is important that everyone involved shows respect for the intellectual property rights of First Nations Peoples pertaining to Aboriginal languages and cultural knowledge and follows Community protocols and school guidelines. The Murri School has employed 'Languages’ teachers to teach Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and culture From Prep to Year 12. |
